Thanksgiving sales ; from Saravana stores, T Nagar

About a fortnight back , I was at T Nagar seeing the shopping madness that overtakes that area during the deepavali/diwali season. Almost all order and sanity loving souls in Chennai would advise you against visiting the place during that time. But ya, I did venture out to see the shopping frenzy and to check out some good deals that might be on the offer.
The entire South Usman road was packed when I tried to enter it from the side of T Nagar depot. I tried to get in ;but then decided to come out of the rush , take a detour and get into the road using a connecting road. Finally I got in ,to see a crowd with a mad mad rush to shop. Things couldn't get crazier than this. It was chaos at its best. Policemen hitting at autos asking them to keep moving on, people jumping erected barricades to reach their shops faster , footpaths swarmed with sellers of all kinds and the kind. By this time it had started raining and I thought the roads would empty up within some time. I couldn't be more wrong. On came all the umbrellas gifting a superb site in which the entire road seemed to be covered with a black sheet. It was a wonderful sight...missed capturing it as I didn't have my cam with me.
One thing that I really felt bad about the sale was that none of the shops were giving any notable discount the way they give during the tamil month of 'Aadi'. Perhaps because of the reason that the stores know that their stocks would sell out anyways. The subtle learning was the existence of a remarkable supply chain wich was in place in most of the famous shops like Saravana stores. The shop was almost open 24 hours . The official close time was 12 midnight during the diwali days but then I could see people working in the stores past midnight ,stocking up fresh stocks. So the best time to shop would naturally be around 9 in the morning when the shops open flush with all those new stocks. Anyways , I still felt the shops (at least the less famous ones) could do well by discounting a little and counting on volumes. Anyways , it couldn't get more crazy than this. Or that's what I thought for the past few weeks.

That till I came across the huge retail showdown called 'Black Friday' this weekend.
