At a time when I was really gettin bored out with the kind of films being realised across Hindi, Tamil & Mallu worlds, Chak De India has come as a real good relief. I caught up with the film at Kochi last week during a short vacation. Although the cinema experience in Kochi was in pits , the sheer brilliance of the film was worth a standing ovation.
Aptly timed for a Independence week release, the movie does spark off your hidden love for India. A soulful picturisation of Hockey , it also offers good lessons on team building for the keen observer. Shahrukh unusually gives ample space for the girls, (He plays the coach of the Indian Women's team) who too pitch in with a great performance.A careful mix of real life players & movie actors, they rightly symbolise the mini-India that gets formed in all national teams. I particularly liked the character of Komal , a Hariyanvi girl who does give a taste of the rough Hariyanvi language at times.
All in all , a good entertainer...minus the usual bollywood crap of ishq vishq pyaar vyaar.
